Town Lots, Acreages, and the Buildings Behind Them

Clearwater sits southwest of Wichita in Sedgwick County, far enough out that it is a town rather than a suburb — a compact centre with acreages and farmland around it. That mix changes what we get called for.

A house on a town lot is ordinary ducted work. A property with a shop, a barn or a detached garage on it is a different conversation, because running a duct out to an outbuilding is usually impractical and sometimes impossible. Ductless equipment and in-floor heat are the two answers there, and which one applies often comes down to whether the concrete has been poured yet.

Heat Where There Is No Duct to Run

An outbuilding has no trunk line to extend and usually no practical route for one. A ductless system needs a line set and a power supply; in-floor heat needs a decision before the slab goes down. Both are ordinary work for us, and both are a great deal easier to talk about early than late.

Clearwater questions

What Clearwater Callers Ask Us

Can you heat and cool a metal shop?
Yes, and it is one of the harder buildings to condition — uninsulated steel, high ceilings, and doors that open all day. Ductwork through one costs floor space and loses capacity to the run itself, so a ductless system is usually the answer: the indoor unit goes where the people are and the compressor goes on the wall outside.
We are pouring a slab for a new shop. Should we do anything now?
Talk to us before the pour. In-floor heating is straightforward to install while the tubing can still be laid in the slab and expensive to retrofit afterwards. It is one of the few HVAC decisions where the timing changes the options rather than just the price.
Do you come out this far southwest?
Yes. Clearwater is on the published service area, and there is no separate charge for the distance.
