In Maize

Northwest of the City, and Still Filling In

Maize sits northwest of Wichita in Sedgwick County, close enough to the city that the boundary between the two is mostly a sign. It is one of the metro's growth corridors, and the housing runs newer than average as a result — two-storey plans, attached garages, and systems that went in with the house.

What comes with that shape of house is the room the ductwork struggles to serve: the bonus space over the garage, the upstairs that never matches the downstairs. Sometimes that is a balancing problem and sometimes it is a capacity one, and the two have very different price tags.

A room that is fine except in August is usually telling you the distribution is off, not that the equipment is finished.

From our own work

Where a Furnace Actually Goes

A furnace goes where the house has room for it, and the room decides as much about the installation as the equipment does — the path the flue takes, where the return comes in, and how much space is left to work in when it next needs a service.

  • Goodman gas furnace installed in a utility room with new ductwork and filter cabinet
A utility room, with new ductwork and a filter cabinet sized to the equipment.
  • Goodman furnace installed in a narrow hallway closet between wood-paneled doors
A hallway closet, where the fit gets worked out before anything is carried in.
  • Rheem furnace installed with new flue pipe and condensate lines in a utility area
New flue pipe and condensate lines run to suit the furnace going in.
  • Air handler installed upright in an interior closet with wood flooring
An air handler stood upright in an interior closet.

Full heating replacements, sorted alongside the rest of the work.

Maize questions

What Maize Callers Ask Us

Upstairs is always hotter than downstairs. What can actually be done about that?
Several things, and which one depends on what is causing it. It can be duct balancing, an undersized return upstairs, insufficient capacity for the upper floor, or a system that is simply oversized and short-cycling before it moves any air. Those have different fixes and very different costs, so the first visit is about establishing which it is rather than selling the most expensive of them.
Do you serve Maize as well as Wichita?
Yes, and it is on the published service area. There is no distance charge — the rate is the same here as anywhere else we go.
How often should a newer system be maintained?
Once a year for each side is the general answer: cooling ahead of summer and heating ahead of winter. Newer equipment is not exempt from it — a system under its original warranty usually has maintenance conditions attached, and skipping them is a way to lose coverage you already paid for.
