Where the Metro Stops and the Country Starts
Douglass sits in the south of Butler County, below Augusta and east of Mulvane, out past the point the metro has genuinely stopped. It is a small town with farmland around it, and the work reflects both halves.
In town it is houses on ordinary ducted systems, a good many of them heated by equipment that has been in place a long time. Outside it there are shops, barns and machine sheds, and those need a different approach — there is rarely a duct route worth running, so ductless equipment and in-floor heat do most of the work. A building with no practical duct route is not one that cannot be conditioned; it is one that needs different equipment.

From our own work
Ductless, Installed
An indoor head goes where the people are, the compressor goes on the wall outside, and between them is a line set and a hole the size of your fist — which is why this works in a building a duct run cannot reach.

An indoor head high on a shop wall, on its own thermostat.
The outdoor half wall-mounted on corrugated steel rather than set on a pad.
A head fitted to an enclosed porch above the original brick wall.
Mini-split installations, sorted with the rest of the work.
Douglass questions
What Douglass Callers Ask Us
- Will you actually drive out to Douglass?
- Yes. It is on the published service area, there is no distance charge, and small towns are a normal part of the week rather than an exception to it.
- What is the cheapest way to heat a shop?
- It depends on whether the slab is down. If it is not, in-floor heat is worth costing out properly — it is efficient, it is invisible, and it is much cheaper to install before the pour than after. If the concrete is already there, a ductless heat pump is generally the answer, and it gives you cooling in the same unit.
- Our furnace is decades old. Are parts still available?
- Often, yes — more often than people expect. Whether they are worth fitting is the real question, and that depends on the condition of the heat exchanger and how the combustion is running. We check both and tell you plainly, including when the honest answer is that repairing it is throwing money at it.
